Pablo Ochoa de Eribe studied Biomedical Engineering at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and completed a master’s degree in Neuroengineering at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). His fascination with the brain’s inner workings led him to pursue a PhD in speech processing.
His research focuses on a novel approach for simultaneously recording neural signals from multiple individuals, known as “hyperscanning.” From these recordings, he extracts and evaluates a range of neural markers to assess how well they explain engagement during naturalistic group conversations. By integrating neural measures with behavioral and physiological features extracted from video—such as listening effort and pupil-dilation—his work aims to provide a quantitative understanding of objective factors that contribute to successful communication. These outcomes have practical relevance; for example, hearing-aid users may benefit from technologies that monitor or enhance engagement in everyday interactions.
