Swantje is a researcher fascinated by human communication and the brain’s ability to cope with challenging listening scenarios. She completed her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Hearing Technology and Audiology at the University of Oldenburg, complemented by a practical semester and her Bachelor’s thesis at the Technical University of Denmark, as well as an exchange semester in Computer Science and Linguistics at the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. Her research focuses on naturalistic language processing under varying levels of difficulty using EEG, eye tracking, and EMG, including hyperscanning approaches to investigate communication dynamics between interaction partners. In addition, she is interested in how the brain processes both spoken and signed language, taking a broader perspective on language processing. Outside of work, she enjoys learning languages, especially sign languages, and spending time outdoors with her dog in and around Erlangen.
